Earthquake meeting in Lewou

This afternoon we had a meeting with the local population in Lewou, Croix-des-Bouquets, Haiti. We have asked the government of Haiti to give us a piece of land, so that we can build a housing project for victims of the earthquake. The government has agreed to give us property. The first property they were going to give was right behind a school. Due to several reasons, the local population did not want to give up this land (government land is often times thought to be community land too.) We did not want to work where there might be a lot of trouble, so the government is in the process of giving us another property. This other property is bigger and nicer. Part of the process of giving us this land was for us to have a meeting with the local population in the new area along with representatives from the government. You can see the pictures of the meeting under the mango tree.

Right beside this property is a big orchard. I cannot identify these trees. Can any of you tell from the pictures what kind of trees these are?

I had some trouble getting my pictures on. Click on the mango tree meeting to go to the web album.

Trip to Pine Forest, etc.

Good morning from Haiti,
We are going to try using Blogger and Picasa as a way to share news and pictures from Haiti. Click on the picture to go to a web album. These pictures are from a family trip to Pine Forest and then some other pictures as well. Pine Forest is a little town 3 hours drive up the mountain. We rented a little cabin owned by the Haitian government. The cabins are from an old US logging camp that was operated back in the 1940's. We took this trip back in April 20 - 22.
